Prioritized street sweeping bike lanes
-
Let's record the date this year!
-
I rode the Springhill route this week, and it was swept. Downtown is ok, but I have not yet been elsewhere.
-
Yesterday morning (Wednesday 26 March) I road down Summit (Hwy 5a to Notre Dame) and the bike lanes were still filled with debris. When I went home in the afternoon, they had done a first sweep. Adam had asked via the City 'Report an Issue' recently and I did the same on Sunday (or Monday, I forget).
-
Yesterday on my way home they'd swept up Summit as far as Gleneagles. This morning on my way down Hugh Allan was not done yet, but as soon as I crossed the highway I noticed Summit probably was done and then it became clear fairly soon they had indeed done a run up and down Summit.
So I guess March 26th for them to complete an initial pass up Summit. Curious to see what's next.
I did report an issue again yesterday early as they still hadn't done anything yet... I don't know that the reports have done much as they seem to be on a plan.
-
I've had good luck with 'Report an Issue.' Usually some action within two days but perhaps this time was just a coincidence. I did note that some irregular deep piles of sand/gravel were not just annoying but dangerous. That often gets more attention ... and was true.
-
Looks like a very rough first pass on Hugh Allan at least from Sifton to Hwy 5a.
-
Yeah, they are running through Aberdeen today. It was pretty weird on Hugh Allan, as you note it was as if they hit capacity as soon as they started and just rearranged the debris.
-
Hmm, I wish I'd made note of the dates last year they had the initial bike lane sweep done on Summit & Hugh Allan - I do recall being impressed by it as I recall many of us were. It seemed like the bike lanes got an actual priority and were made safer pretty early.
I have been up and down Summit a few times lately and while I've seen sweepers in a variety of places (even caught a couple fueling up by the highway near Pineview this morning), Summit and Hugh Allan have some areas that really aren't great.
@RobHiggins - Am I off in my recollection that last year they'd done the bike lane routes up the hills impressively early last year?
-
They were up near the Pineview parking area on High Allen last night. So clearly they are prioritizing cycle lanes. Too bad Bylaws wasn't with them to ticket all the vehicles parked in the cycle lane...
-
They have done my home street as well in Aberdeen. I'm not sure if they have purchased more sweepers but it seems they are getting it done faster overall. A couple years ago it seemed to be weeks after they started on the N Shore before they got to Aberdeen.

https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/830da2c720fb47ca9ffa059a6966b122 I get the same feeling as well, @RobHiggins - I suspect the perception changes pretty quickly too when it looks like they've changed their plan to not have to completely do one low-level area before starting any road further up. Their progress map is fairly interesting at the moment to see what's de-prioritized.

As of Thursday night it looks like they are around 90% done. Interesting that Pacific Way hasn't been done yet, just because it gets SOOO MUCH sand and gravel over the winter. Not a bike route of any value though.
