Small victories! This Doug Ford scandal has been struck down as unconstitutional at this point - perhaps there will be some wins that come because of this: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-ford-bike-lane-toronto-court-ruling-1.7597460

  • GoByBike week has started, join the KCC team and log some miles!
    Adam CA Adam C

As per Glen Cheetham: "Visit us at the celebration bike valet station on the west plaza of Sandman Centre each day of GoByBike Week and enter to win a $50 daily prize and a $500 grand prize. Whether you walk, roll, or ride, come say hello to our Bike Valet Ambassadors who are providing free, secure bike parking all summer long! "

At 10:30ish this morning I was the first entry in the box at the bike valet. I've got a pretty good chance of winning so far! 😁

I hope the weather's not scaring people off today!

While you're at it - please join the KCC GoByBike team if you're not already part of a team (or if you'd like to switch!), it's at: https://logmyride.gobybikebc.ca/teams/join/31f04a81-15a2-4d44-8e92-b24b5b757ec1

I thought this was interesting that ye olde KCC logo appeared on the Kamloops Bike Valet posters that are going around. I'm glad that it's there, and hopefully we can get the new logo out to whomever needs it at the city to update for future communication.

I love it when this work gets done. I was hunting around for studies and stories relating to economic benefits of bike lanes and came across this today which is much more broad information-wise. I haven't given it a full read yet, but the executive summary is awesome.

There are 23 pages of References and Information Resources alone. wow.

    This document is just awesome.

  • MUP clean up and April 8 meeting location
    Adam CA Adam C

I am at the home show all weekend, so can't make the clean up either.

I suspect the next meeting will be at the Big Little Science Center again as I don't believe we have a spot on the north shore yet.

We had a quote from All About Imprint, they seem like they have a very ethically sourced product.

Picket Fence Graphics also does clothing, I've had shirts made up there. I did not research the various back-end bits of the clothing brands they carry, but they did very good work for me.

https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/830da2c720fb47ca9ffa059a6966b122 I get the same feeling as well, @RobHiggins - I suspect the perception changes pretty quickly too when it looks like they've changed their plan to not have to completely do one low-level area before starting any road further up. Their progress map is fairly interesting at the moment to see what's de-prioritized.

HI there Skye, thanks for dropping in!

Yes, we were on a slow ramp-up plan even internally in regards to the forum. Now that it's been posted in the newsletter, we'll get a link up on the website and yes I agree it should be more prominent than the Facebook link.

You're right on the buy & sell aspect, too... I don't think that's what we want to take on at this point in time.

Are you a KCC Member, by the way?

Very rough, indeed! Almost looked like the machine got full right after starting that bit. Something's happening, though.

Yesterday on my way home they'd swept up Summit as far as Gleneagles. This morning on my way down Hugh Allan was not done yet, but as soon as I crossed the highway I noticed Summit probably was done and then it became clear fairly soon they had indeed done a run up and down Summit.

So I guess March 26th for them to complete an initial pass up Summit. Curious to see what's next.

I did report an issue again yesterday early as they still hadn't done anything yet... I don't know that the reports have done much as they seem to be on a plan.

  • Accessibility standards?
    Adam CA Adam C

I'm curious to know what kind of accessibility standards this kind of entryway adheres to, if any? This is the multi-use path at the end of St. Paul St. West, which has these silly openings on one side of a vehicle gate, rather than a couple of openings with bollards, or anything better.

I don't like going through this one especially on the downhill, as the hill is eroding on to the only place to ride through, and it's a great spot for conflict as well.

Do we know if this spot (and/or other sore spots) have been brought to the city's attention in the past while?

  • Pioneer Park
    Adam CA Adam C

I was by Pioneer Park this morning and approached it from the west. It looks like the new path is being done similarly to Riverside Park - right up against the beach. You can see in the first picture how it's branching off to the left toward the river.

As per the other discussion, I'm not sure this is the best idea either considering what the park is used for.
